EIA:18.5GW solar power station will be added in the United States in 2020

EIA:18.5GW solar power station will be added in the United States in 2020 1

U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) expect to install 13.4GW utility solar power station and 5.1GW small-scale solar power station by 2020, it is 95% more than 2019. Meanwhile, EIA expects the U.S. solar power station to increase to 25.9GW by next year as the investment tax credit is about to expire.

EIA publishes annual solar installations for utility scale industries, businesses and homes. In 2016, the U.S. solar installed capacity peaked at 11.2GW, then the new installed capacity declined in 2017 due to the investment tax credit, and then grew for two years in 2018 and 2019. In 2020 and 2021, driven by the expansion of U.S. utility scale solar capacity from 5.9GW to 13.4GW, the solar installed capacity will explode.

Moreover, EIA also predicts that the large-scale growth of solar energy in the United States is not limited to utility scale solar energy, and small-scale solar energy will also increase 38% to more than 5GW from 3.6GW deployed in 2019. This growth is mainly driven by the residential and commercial solar markets.

At the same time, EIA also pointed out that not only a large number of solar power station will be installed in United States, there will be a net negative growth of fossil fuels in 2020.
