What types of capacitors are there?

Capacitors are one of the most commonly used components in electronic circuit design. It plays an important role in many embedded applications. It has different levels. It consists of two metal plates separated by non-conductive substances or dielectrics. So what are the types of capacitors?

According to whether the capacitance is adjustable, the capacitance is divided into a fixed capacitance and variable capacitance. Fixed capacitors include non-polar capacitors and polar capacitors.

According to the different dielectric materials, there are many kinds of fixed capacitors. Non-polar fixed capacitors include paper capacitors, polyester capacitors, mica capacitors, polystyrene capacitors, polyester capacitors, glass glaze capacitors, and ceramic capacitors. Fixed polarity capacitors include aluminum electrolytic capacitors, tantalum electrolytic capacitors, and niobium electrolytic capacitors.

When using polar capacitors, pay attention to the positive and negative leads. In the circuit, the positive lead of the capacitor should be connected to the high potential end, and the negative lead should be connected to the low potential end. If the polarity is reversed, the leakage current will increase and the capacitor will be easily damaged.
